Emma Louise Johnson was born in Meriden township, Steele county, July 28, 1879. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Scholljegerdes. In her infancy she was baptized and in her youth she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In 1897 she was married to Charles J. Johnson. This union was blessed with eight children, seven daughters and one son. Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Johnson came to Douglas county and settled in Hudson township and in this territory the family has resided the past 48 years. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed fair health during most of her lifetime. Four years ago, however, she submitted to a serious operation and therewith her health began to fail. In May of this year it became apparent that she was afflicted with a malignant disease and she and her family realized that her life was rapidly drawing to a close. Early Friday morning she fell asleep and this attained the age of 65 years and 28 days.
Her departure is mourned by her bereaved husband, Charles Johnson of Forada, seven daughters and one son, two sisters, five brothers and 10 grandchildren. The children surviving are; Mrs. Ella Halstead of Frederic, Wis.; Mrs. Anna Glock, near Forada; Miss Hilda Johnson of Forada; Mrs. Mamie Kilstrom of Los Angeles, Calif.; Edward Johnson of Hudson township; Mrs. Alvina Muzik of Forada; Mrs. Viola Bizek of Alexandria, and Miss Mabel Johnson of Big Delta, Alaska.
Funeral services were held Aug. 27 from the Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. C. Kratzke of Villard officiating. Interment was made in the Kinkead cemetery. Pallbearers were Oscar Covel, Irvin Covel, Fred Ihlenfeldt, Clifford Busch, Adolph Busch, and Lawrence Busch.
