The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by the Rev. Larry Poole. Burial will be in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Leonard was born May 2, 1921, in Davidson County to Jessie Homer Leonard and Nealie Bates Leonard. He was retired from the Davidson County school system after 17 years of service at Welcome Elementary School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel Byerly Leonard of the home; a son, Kenneth Leonard and his wife, Mary Jane, of Lexington; a daughter, Marie Whitlock and husband, Jimmy, of Lexington; three grandchildren, Nita Jarrett, Onda Goins and Todd Leonard, all of Lexington; four brothers, Blake Leonard, J.W. Leonard, Joe Leonard and Howard "Tom" Leonard, all of Lexington; and four sisters, Alta Merritt and Mary Leonard, both of Lexington, and Naomi Allgood and Edna Twyne, both of Winston-Salem.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
