Richard Wayne Shealy
BATESBURG - Richard Wayne Shealy, 85, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015 after a long illness. Mr. Shealy was born May 9, 1929 to Lester Shealy and Maggie Lorick Shealy.
He is survived by his twelve children: Dianne and Charles Cochran, Caryn and Frankie Cockrell, Claudia Cochran, Ricky and Donna Shealy, Charlie and Debbie Shealy, Owens and Marcia Shealy, Vaughn Shealy, John and Debra Shealy, Tillman Shealy, Lora Kutz, Donnie and Alicia Shealy, Jenny and Leonardo Joaquin; twenty-six grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and a sister Oberia "Snap" Taylor.
Mr. Shealy was a faithful member of Clydes Chapel Southern Methodist Church, until his health hindered him. He served in several capacities in the church, including the Board of Trustees.
He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of fifty-two years Loreita Bedenbaugh Shealy; granddaughter Felicia Dawn Shealy; and grandson Joel Joaquin.
He proudly served in the Saluda Unit National Guard for 32 years, until his retirement 06-04-1979 with the rank Platoon Sargent 122 Engineer Company.
He was employed by Mt Vernon Mills, Columbia and by Amick Farms as Maintenance Supervisor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Three Forks Trail, in care of Boyd Lloyd, 203 McLendon St, Lamar, SC 29069.
The funeral will be held at Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 4:00 pm at Clydes Chapel Southern Methodist Church, Batesburg, with interment to follow in the church cemetery with Full Military Honors. The service will be conducted by Pastor Greg Williams.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Eli Cochran, Jeremy Cochran, Ben Cochran, Matthew Shealy, Nicholas Shealy, Nicky Shealy, Darin Shealy, Joshua Shealy, Clay Shealy, Jacob Shealy, Will Shealy, and Dalton Shealy.
The family will receive visitors on Monday evening, April 27, 2015, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home from 6 to 8. Other times the family will be at the home of his daughter Dianne Cochran.
