From the October 21, 1957 issue of the Illinoian Star newspaper, Beardstown, Illinois: Mrs. Anne Elizabeth Gartner, 47, wife of Richard R. Gartner who is chemist at the Beardstown Mills, died at 10:45 o'clock Sunday night at her home, 1209 State street. At her side, when death came, were all members of her family including her husband, two sons, Mark who is in the Air Force, and Dick who is a teacher at Brick school, two daughters, Betty and Patsy both in high school, her sister who was here from Lincoln, Nebraska and the Rev. Boyd L. Rudd pastor of the Methodist church. Funeral services were held at 10:30 o'clock, this morning at Cline's Funeral home with the Rev. Rudd in charge. Sacred music was played by Mrs. Charles Hobrock, organist. The remains were then setn to Houston, Texas, where funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon. Burial will be at Houston. Mrs. Gartner was born December 20, 1909 at Houston, Texas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Dunn. She met Mr. Gartner while the two were attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Nebraska. Both graduated from the university in 1931 and were married the following year. They observed their 25th wedding anniversary this past spring. They came here in 1953, and Mrs. Gartner was active in the Methodist church, and in schools and community life. She was a member of the First Methodist church and was former superintendent of the Junior Department of the Sunday School. She was active in the Women's Society of Christian service and a member of Circle 7. Mrs. Gartner was active in the Woman's club and in the Daughters club, a subsidiary of the Woman's club. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Mark, who is with the U.S. Air Force stationed near Naperville, Ill., Richard Jr., two daughters, Betty and Patsy at home, one sister and one brother.
