He was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre. Before he retired, he was self-employed as a mechanic. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Kathleen Esser; a brother, Ellsworth J.; sisters, Gertrude Salenski and Ethel "Jenny" Lerch. Surviving are daughters, Joan Boston, Wilkes-Barre Township; Carol Farrell, Yatesville; Nancy Roberts and Kathleen Karen Boston, both of Wilkes-Barre; sons, George W. Jr., Hanover Township; William, Wilkes-Barre; 32 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Granville, Ashley. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Luther M. Kniffen Funeral Home, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Robert Zanicky, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Greenwood Cemetery, Trucksville. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
