Edward C. Lemke was born in Pommern, Germany on april 26, 1874, the son of Wilhelm and Amelia Lemke. He was baptized in Germany and when he was nine years of age he emigrated to the United States with his parents and two brothers, coming directly to Alexandria, Minn. The Lemke family later purchased a farm in Alexandria township where Edward grew to manhood. He was confirmed in the Zion Lutheran church and on Dec. 8, 1904 was united in marriage to Amanda Schmidt. Mr. Lemke was employed in Alexandria until his retirement. Mrs. Lemke preceded him in death in 1918. For many years, Mr. Lemke made his residence with his daughter (Theresa) Mrs. R. Aiton and for the past four years has made his home with his other daughter, (Jessie) Mrs. Martin Schuhmacher.
Mr. Lemke died Dec. 5, 1967 at the age of 93 years. Surviving are his two daughters: Theresa (Mrs. Robert Aiton) and Jessie (Mrs. Martin Schuhmacher); five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 8, 1967 from the Zion Lutheran church, the Rev. K. K. Hill officiating. Interment was in Kinkead cemetery, Alexandria. Pallbearers were: Paul Lemke, Donovan Schumacher, rollin Schuhmacher, Rudolph Beilke, Orville Schuhmacher and Norman Schuhmacher.
