25 Oct 1926: Matthius C. Blantz, of 529 Spring Street, this city, died suddenly at his home on Sunday morning after his breakfast. Heart trouble was the cause of death. He was aged 19 years, 6 months, and 3 days [calculated DOB]. Surviving are one son, Frank, of Annville; one daughter, Miss Katie Blantz, this city; two sisters, Emma Hop, and Mrs. Harry Bechtold, of Connecticut. Interment to be made in the Mt. Annville Cemetery. [Lebanon Daily News]The son of Benjamin & Maria Magdalena (Meily) Blantz or Plantz (as the family appears in the 1860 census), in 1860 he was living with his farming family in Elizabeth Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Lancaster August 22, 1864, as a private with Co. B, 79th Pennsylvania Infantry. He enlisted with his brother Martin, joining their brother William who had been serving since the regiment's inception. He and William honorably discharged with their company July 12, 1865, but Martin was killed in action at Bentonville.
