MARIE VERONICA GRABBER BOIKE SCHAFFER was born on February 22, 1925 in Cullman, Alabama, to Ben Grabber and Sophie Hasenbein Grabber. She attended Sacred Heart Academy in Cullman, graduating in May 1942. She married William J. (Bill) Boike on June 20, 1944, and was blessed with seven children. Marie and Bill moved to Pasadena, Texas, in 1957. Following Bill’s death in 1976, Marie returned to her hometown of Cullman and married Charles (Charlie) Boike in 1977. Following Charlie’s death in 1985, Marie moved to Arkansas for several years, returning again to Cullman in 1997. She married Charles Schaffer in 1998. In 2011, when Charles passed away, Marie moved to Richmond, Texas, to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Dan Spain. She moved to Brazosview Healthcare Center in Richmond in 2013, where she remained until her death on April 20, 2015. The family would like to thank Norma Grays, Director of Nursing at Brazosview, and her staff for their awesome personal care of Marie in her last days.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Ben Grabber and Sophie Hasenbein Grabber; brother, Carl Grabber; sister, Alma Grabber Kinney; three husbands, William J. Boike, Charles Boike, and Charles Schaffer; granddaughter, Beverly Boike Boyer; and grandson Bobby Joe Boike.
Marie is survived by seven children: William L. (Bill) Boike (Delores), Mary M. Spain (Dan), Betty A. Williams (Roy), Robert J. Boike, James A. Boike (Bobbie), Ruth C. Spencer (Jerry), and John M. Boike (Nancy); eleven grandchildren: Regina Boike, Angela Boike, Arthur A. Ward (Melissa), Aaron M. Williams (Meredith), Cheryl Williams Terrell (Andy), Miles G. Williams (Rachel), Kelli JoAnn Boike Mueller (Don), Kimberly Michelle (Shelli) Boike Harris, Matthew J. Boike, Matthew Spencer, and Leigh Spencer Lynch; thirteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Arthur Ward, Aaron Williams, Miles Williams, Matthew Boike, and nephews Charles Boike and Michael Boike.
Funeral services for Marie Schaffer will be held on Thursday, April 23, at 10:00 at the Niday Funeral Home Chapel, Deacon Jesse Tollett presiding. Burial will be at Resurrection Lawn in Pearland. Reception following the burial will be held in the Social Hall at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 11011 Hall Road, Houston.
