Mrs. Edith Devine Died Yesterday at Watsonville Home
Watsonville, Jan. 8. – After an illness of four months, Mrs. Edith Hortense Devine, 52, widow of the late Constable Arthur Devine of Watsonville township, passed away this morning at her home at 29 Jefferson. Mr. Devine, who was one of the most colorful and active peace officers in this locality, preceded her in death about nine years ago.
Mrs. Devine is survived by her aged mother, Mrs. H.C. Weston of Watsonville and three daughters, Mrs. Harry Meyer Jr. and Mrs. C.E. Peterson, both of Oakland, and Mrs. Steve Sambrailo of Watsonville, and three grandchildren.
Born in San Francisco, Mrs. Devine came to Watsonville as a girl 45 years ago and had lived here ever since. Her death will prove a source of deep sorrow among the numerous friends she made. She was a woman of a friendly and genial disposition and a good mother.
The body was removed to White’s funeral home where the funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Burial will be in the family plot in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
