RUSSELL HARWOOD

Russell Harwood, 88, died at 12:25 p.m. Thursday in Decatur County Memorial Hospital, having been in failing health the past few months.

Mr. Harwood was born in Clay Township, Decatur County, Dec. 29, 1892, the son of James F. and Adeline Theobald Harwood. He was married to Maude Mae Vandivier Aug. 18, 1912, and she preceded him in death in 1969. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Greensburg.

A member of the IOOF Lodge No. 103 since 1918, he was very active as long as his health permitted and had served as a trustee for several years. He had farmed in Decatur County most of his life and was active in the Farm Bureau organization. He served on the board of directors of the Decatur County Co-op from 1938 until 1949.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Elsie) Mock, Greensburg; a son-in-law, Bernard P. Mock, Greensburg; a nephew, Charles Lawson, Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Harwood, who died in 1937 at the age of 37 and Mabel Harwood Lawson, who died in 1978.

The services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Michael Thiel officiating and with burial in South Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today and an IOOF ritualistic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight. The family requests that memorials be in the form of donations to the First Christian Church.
