Firm's Chief Is Dead at 67
Herman Bortin, 67, of 1219 E. Glendale av., Shorewood, founder and president of Carpet Bazaar, died Wednesday at Mount Sinai hospital.
Mr. Bortin formerly was president of Hermax Furniture Co., 3200 W. North av., which he also started. In 1959 he organized the carpeting firm at 2300 N. 3rd st.
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., he came to Milwaukee 50 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Anne; a son, Mr. Mortimer M. Bortin, Mequon; three sisters, Mrs. John Ruppa, Mrs. Edward Meldman and Mrs. Irving Muskat, all of Milwaukee, and a brother, Earl Washington D.C.
Services were held Thursday at the Weiss funeral home, 1901 N. Farwell av. Burial was in Spring Hill cemetery.
