Horace Bradley Carpenter 88, of Sheffield, AL died Sunday April 19, 2015. Visitation will be 11:00am until 2:00pm at The First Baptist Church Sheffield.

The funeral service will follow at 2:00pm Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the church. Interment will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.


Mr. Carpenter was a native of Colbert Co., AL. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific theater, and was always loyal to his shipmates and families of the USS Goshen APA-108.

Mr. Carpenter had an early career in the cotton industry as farmer, buyer, and owner of a cotton gin in partnership with his father. He also had a long and diverse merchant career as a leading business owner in Tuscumbia, AL.

He was a 32 ͦ Mason, a Shriner (Cahaba Temple) and a deacon emeritus at First Baptist Church, Sheffield, AL. Mr. Carpenter was an avid fisherman and master at carpentry and building. He loved dancing, flying airplanes, boating and was an expert water skier.


Out of all of his many endeavors in life, his favorite accomplishments were his children. His children will always affectionately remember their father as a powerful man driven by great strength of character.

Preceding Mr. Carpenter in death are his parents, Horace Greeley Carpenter and Mary Elsie Bradford Carpenter, and son, Horace Edward Carpenter.
