The son of Garland and Ruth Dellinger Sherrill, Charles Sherrill of Cherryville attended Cherryville High School, CPCC-Charlotte, Lenoir-Rhyne College & NC State University. He was member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Cherryville, North Carolina and was the fourth Eagle Scout of the Cherryville Boy Scout Troop #323. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was a member of American Legion Post 100.
