Valentine Hinkle, sixth son of Jonas and Catherine E. (Cooper) Hinkle, was born 2 May 1808 on a farm located on the west side of the Tygarts Valley River between Elkins and Beverly, Randolph Co., WV.
---He married in 1827 Tabitha Jackson, (1798-1845), daughter of John Sr. and Elizabeth (Cummings) Jackson.
CHILDREN: Ithiel Hinkle (1828–1915), Catherine Hinkle (1829–1872) @1850 Radabaugh, Martha Jane Hinkle 1833, Lafayette Hinkle (1834–1925), Sarah Ann Hinkle (born ca. 1836) @1856 Strader.
- - His second wife was Matilda Dean (1823–1875); marriage date 22 Jan 1846. CHILDREN: Cain William Hinkle (1847–1920), Rachel Hinkle (1851–1897), Lorenzo Dow Hinkle (1853–1926), Eunice Columbia Hinkle (1856–1929).
- - (*)Third wife: Melinda (Criss) Wells, widow of Everett Wells. Malinda (Criss) Wells (48) and Valentine Hinkle (65) - Marriage Date: 8 Feb 1875, Barbour, West Virginia; and together in the 1880 census.
