Born to Casimir and Catharine (Makaravich) Akelaitis. He was one of 10 children. He was raised in Ansonia, Conn. and moved to California in 1942. He went to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, retiring as a submarine nuclear inspector after 35 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude Akelaitis, in 2002.
He is survived by his son, Anthony A. (Barbara) Akelaitis Jr., of Campbell River, British Columbia; daughter, Le Anne (Eligio) Torres, of Rocklin; sisters Helen Foos of Orange, Conn., and Nellie Velms of Ansonia, Conn.; grandchildren, Eric, Andrea and Christopher Akelaitis, Tedman and Seth Torres and great-grandchildren Jordan, Ethan and Michael Akelaitis.
Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service on Thursday, June 8, 11am , at Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St., Napa. visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 7, 1-8pm with a Rosary at 7pm. Interment will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn in Vallejo.
Donations are preferred to Hospice of Napa Valley, 414 South Jefferson St., Napa.
