Rolland “Jim” Cordt, 92, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Iowa River Hospice Home with his loving family by his side.

Funeral services for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Ellcey officiating.

Rolland Carl Cordt was born on February 26, 1923, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Carl Cordt and Gladys Lange. He was raised and educated in the Marshalltown School District, graduating from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1941. Following high school, Jim honorably served his country with the United States Navy. Upon his return, he attended and graduated from the Marshalltown Junior College.

On June 6, 1948, Jim married, Dorotha Iverson, in the family home south of LeGrand. Jim began a innovative and colorful 55-year career with Lennox Industries as the Computer Programmer. In 1989, he began a well-deserved retirement alongside the love of his life, Dorotha.

Sports was one of Jim’s main passions. He was a devoted 10-year member of the Marshalltown Ansons semi-pro baseball team and helped bring little league to his hometown. Jim was a member of the American Legion, and Central Christian Church. He will be fondly remembered for his humor, and for the way he loved his family.

Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his children: Joel (the late Joan) Cordt, Craig (Gretchen) Cordt and Kristy (Gary) Beckler; grandchildren: Kelley Cordt, Anne (Derick) Thurston, Elizabeth (Caleb) Recker, Sally (Andrew) Muench; one step-granddaughter: Cori (Chris) Williams; great-grandchildren: Alice Thurston, James Thurston, Lauren Recker; two step-great grandchildren: Brandon and Maya Williams; one sister: Janice Thorn; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorotha; parents, Carl and Gladys; daughter-in-law, Joan; and one brother, Robert.

Funeral services for Rolland "Jim" Cordt, 92, of Marshalltown, IA were held on Friday, April 17, 2015, with Pastor Greg Ellcey officiating.

Mr. Cordt was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brad Iverson, Don Lee, Lindy Lee, Dan Thorn, Mick Sharer and Kevin Malloy.

In attendance were groups from Iowa River Hospice, Lennox Mfg. and the 1957 Anson Baseball Team, along with a host of family and friends.
