Alvin was born to Oda and Eleanor (Svaty) Barta on August 20, 1924.
Alvin graduated from Wilson High School and immediately joined the US Navy during World War II. While on leave, he married his high school sweetheart, Loretta Novak, on May 11, 1944. The couple made Lucas their home, raising six children. In addition to farming, Alvin worked for the Alcohol Beverage Control, State of Kansas, retiring in February 1990. He was a devoted husband and father and rarely missed the children's activities.
He is predeceased by his parents; wife, Loretta; grandson, Joel Barta; and great grandson, Trey Hartness.
He is survived by his children; Susan (Jim) Urich, Overland Park, Kansas; Richard (Marcia) Barta, Topeka, Kansas; Terry (Mary Lynn) Barta, Smith Center, Kansas; Tom (Mary Beth) Barta, Topeka, Kansas; Dave (Gayle) Barta, Hoyt, Kansas; Sondra (Mike) O'Leary, Gardner, Kansas; 21 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother, Clarence (Mary) Barta; and sister, Evelyn Anshutz.
A funeral mass will be held Monday, April 20, 2015 at 10 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Lucas Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be to the Ellsworth County Medical Center. Rodrick and Minear Funeral Home of Lucas is in charge of the arrangements.
