Audrey Alten (nee Busser), 86, of Amherst, formerly of Sheffield Village for 52 years, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, following a long illness. She was born January 1, 1929 in Lorain, to Lawrence and Gertrude (nee Smith) Busser.

Audrey was a former member of St. Teresa Church in Sheffield Village, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and was a current parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Amherst. She was employed by Sears Department Store at the Midway Mall when they first opened. She and her husband, Adelbert, were the former owners and operators of Alten’s Cliff House Tavern in Sheffield Village.

At one time Audrey served meals on wheels at the Sheffield Lake Community Center, prepared food for the poor at St. Joseph Food Shelter in Lorain and volunteered at Avon Oaks Senior Center.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Debbie) Alten, David (Ruth) Alten, Jeffrey (Jeri) Alten, Kathleen (Harold) Beasley and Lynda Mihalic; grandchildren, Brian (Sarah) Alten, Christopher Alten, Eric Alten and Douglas (Andrea) Mihalic; great-grandson, Hunter Alten; and a brother, Richard Busser.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Adelbert Alten in 2000; parents, Lawrence and Gertrude Busser; brother, Bernard Busser; and her sister, Dolores Stock.

The Alten Family will receive friends Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 3 to 7 P.M., in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, Amherst. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 20, 2015 at 10 A.M., at St. Teresa Church, Sheffield Village. Reverend Father Edward Smith, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
