Jabez Jack Collis, 74, died at his residence on Tuesday, Dec. 11, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Jack was born in Sudbury, Suffolk, England, but came to London, Ontario, Canada via the Olympic after WWI when he was a child. He remained in London for most of his life.

He worked as a topper, but later joined the Royal Canadian Army and was a medic during WWII from the British Expeditionary Force at Dunkirk to the end of the war. He won several medals of honor, including: the Military Cross, 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with bars, and the War Medal.

After the war, he worked at Labatt's Brewery in London.

Jack loved to fish and won many fishing tournaments. He was also a talented photographer and his collection of war photos was donated to the Royal Canadian museum and his work has been published in numerous books.

He was survived by Marian (Mrs. Carl Bryan) of St. Joseph, Missouri, Nancy Collis and Janet (Mrs. Manuel Rodrigues) both of London, 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and his former wife Florence (Overholt) Collis of London. And he was a dear friend of Anna Goetz of London.

His funeral was held at the Needham Funeral Chapel, 520 Dundas St., Rev. Canon A.E. Young officiating. He had a Royal Canadian Legion service under the auspices of Victory Branch #317.
