Mary Katherine (Sigle) Wilson passed away at the age of 90. She began life in Clinton, Oklahoma. A story she liked to tell was that she was born up over the post office, a special delivery, on the hottest day of the year, always adding, “So far.”Her childhood had many joys. She had a season pass to the local swimming pool a few blocks away from her home. She was a good student and enjoyed school. She participated in Campfire Girls where she learned to crochet. Later in life she took this craft to more complicated patterns making many afghans that became gifts to new babies and their parents. At the age of nine years old she asked (well maybe begging was involved) for a piano. Her friend Darlene had one and Mary Katherine had experienced the happiness of making music. The family was able to purchase a piano that was only 6 months old. This began her lifelong love of music. When the family moved to Muskogee, Mary Katherine began playing piano for church services at the Frozen Rock Mission that was connected to the First Baptist Church of Muskogee. The move was not a welcomed one, but she made the best of it and graduated from Muskogee High School. She then worked at Southwestern Bell in the summer and attended Oklahoma Baptist University as a music major. Funds ran short and she left the University before graduating. She then sold her piano and graduated from Draughon’s Business College. She worked for Harrelson Horseman Architects and Muskogee Daily Phoenix. While working at Brockway Glass Company, she met Harold Wilson. They married after a short courtship and soon life led them to traveling with the tower construction company, National Steel Erectors. After several years and the birth of their 3 children, they decided to put down roots in the Muskogee area and purchased land near Oktaha. As they began to build their farm, another piano was purchased. This led to her time as church pianist for Trinity Baptist Church of Oktaha and later Northside Baptist Church. The last years of her life were spent at her youngest daughter’s home. She was much loved by many, including her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved jokes and enjoyed television comedies. During this time, her piano had come with her in the move. The day before she passed she was surrounded by family both immediate and extended. She had played a little on the piano and enjoyed the festivities of the Thanksgiving holiday. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her 2 brothers.Mary Katherine is survived by her children, Sharon Keller and husband David, Steve Wilson and Joann Nicholson, and Shirley Russell and husband Tom; grandchildren, Silas Dunn, Amber Hill and husband Billy, Summer George, Jared Russell, Rhonda Johnson and husband Clifton, Fred, Mike and Jacob Nicholson; great-grandchildren, Nic Hensley, MayLynn Friend, Aaron Friend, Madison Hill, Destiny Samuel, Jeremiah and William Johnson; and many other family members and friends.A celebration of Mary Katherine’s life will be 2PM, Friday, December 1, 2017 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Phil Pack officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.
