JOHNSON, Dorothy Pauline (Reynolds), age 97, died Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Walnut Creek Nursing Center. Dorothy was born on November 1, 1919 in Guthrie Center, Iowa to the late Robert B. and Hazel H. (Sauvago) Reynolds. Dorothy lived in Guthrie Center until December 14, 1943 when she came to Dayton to work as a teletype operator at WPAFB. In August, 1944 she met LeRoy Johnson and they were married June 3, 1945. Dorothy went on to work at Rike's Department Store where she retired in 1987 after 28 years. Having grown up in the farm country of Iowa, she greatly enjoyed her vegetable garden and flowers. Survivors include her daughter Carolyn Burns and husband David of West Carrollton; four grandchildren, Chris Johnson and wife Tracy, Richard Burns and wife Jennifer, Christopher Burns and wife Misty, Nicholas Burns; and thirteen great grandchildren, Aidan, Kiera, Sarah, and Connor Johnson; Cameron, Sebastian, Lincoln and Archer Burns; Owen and Isaac Burns and Jace and Joel Hoskins; and Dominic Burns. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, LeRoy Johnson; three sisters, Lillian M. Smith, Kathleen H. Erb, Harriet J. Reynolds, and one brother, Rex S. Reynolds. Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at the GEORGE C. MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, “Northridge Chapel,” 5040 Frederick Pike at Needmore Road. Interment Shiloh Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the George C. Martin Funeral Home. The family would like to extend a special “Thank you” to all the caregivers at Walnut Creek Nursing Center who so lovingly dedicated their time to Dorothy during the last three years and to Hospice of Dayton.
