KINGSTON- Ellen A. Roach Madden, 77 of Washington Avenue, Kingston died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at Health Alliance Hospital Broadway Campus. Born Jan. 1, 1937 she is a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Marguerite “Peggy” (Murphy) Roach. Ellen graduated from St. Joseph’s School in Kingston and was a member of the class of 1954 at the Academy of Saint Ursula’s. A volunteer at Birthright International and a ward of the polls in the City of Kingston, she was also a parishioner at Saint Joseph’s Church. Ellen was a child care provider for many years, and was formerly employed at The Metropolitan Life Hall of Records. Surviving is her husband; James J. Madden,they would celebrate 57 years of marriage Jan. 27 of this year, her daughters; Megan Welch and her husband Gary of Kingston, Karen Madden-Dreiser and her husband Ron of Port Ewen, Kelly Ann Hertica and her husband Charles of Kingston, a son James J. Madden and his wife Jenny Nelson-Madden of Woodstock; a brother John A. Roach, and his wife Johanna of California, grandchildren; Caitlin Murphy Welch (Justin Hill), Ryan A. Welch (Crissy VanMeter), Jared Dreiser, Mara Dreiser (Ricky Negron), Carley Anne Hertica and Patrick Hertica; a great -grandson James Atticus Hill, cousins; Sister Elanora Murphy, S.U., Dave and Karen Roach, Barbara Salvino and Anne Casey, many nieces and nephews. Ellen is also survived by special people in her life; Jean van Hoesen, Patricia Gilligan, Joan Ann Mahoney and Family, Cathryn Timbrouck, Kellie Carey, Amy Rhoades, Joseph Perry, staff of Rage, “The Girls” of St. Ursula, and countless other children that she cared for and nurtured. A son, Robert John Madden, and brother Thomas S. Roach died previously. Funeral and cremation arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc. 27 Smith Avenue, Kingston. www.jvleahyfh.com Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Prayer service will take place at 6 p.m. A funeral procession will form Wednesday 9 a.m. at the funeral home.
