Andrew Aquila trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and was assigned to the 753rd Tank Battalion. He was sent to Camp Polk, Louisiana, where he volunteered to join the 192nd Tank Battalion. He was assigned to B Company.
When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, he was stationed in the Philippine Islands. He fought on Bataan and took part in the death march when Bataan was surrendered to the Japanese.
As a Prisoner of War, he was held at Camp O'Donnell and Cabanatuan, in the Philippines, and Fukuoka #3-B in Japan until the end of the war.
