Richard August Nordhausen was born July 15, 1921, to August and Mary (Pennington) Nordhausen in Martin County, Minnesota. He received his education in District #52 in Elm Creek Township. Dick then helped on the family farm. On May 25, 1942 he entered the United States Navy serving until his honorable discharge on November 11, 1946. Dick continued farming in Martin County. On September 30, 1951, he was united in marriage to Joan Erickson at Fairmont, Minnesota. After their marriage they farmed in Elm Creek Township for twenty-nine years until retiring moving into Trimont in 1981. Dick was a salesman for Cargill Seed Company for many years. Joan died on July 21, 1984. On March 7, 1985, he was united in marriage to Lois Koch in Trimont, Minnesota. After their marriage they lived in there home in Trimont where he mowed various lawns in town until 2000 when they moved to Amberfield Apartments where they are the caretakers. Dick was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post #373. Dick enjoyed watching sporting events and especially the Minnesota Twins. He greatly enjoyed playing cards and visiting with people. Dick also was the Sexton of Elm Creek Cemetery for many years.

Richard died on Thursday afternoon, February 9, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota at the age of eighty-four years.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Nordhausen of Trimont, Minnesota; his children, Vicky Gigstad and her husband, Allan, of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Gail Thelen and her husband, William, of Bellevue, Washington, Glen Nordhausen and his wife, Betty, of Fairmont, Minnesota, the late Susan Bloomgren and her husband, Robert and his wife, Karla Bloomgren of Trimont, Minnesota, Bob Koch and his wife, Naomi, of Fairmont, Minnesota and Don Koch and his wife, Darcy, of Shakopee, Minnesota; grandchildren, Steven Gigstad, Paul Gigstad and his wife, Chrissie, Michael Gigstad, Hillary and Mitchell Thelen, Chad and Chris Cheeseman, Brandi Ketterling and her husband, Ryan, Laura Lawrence and her husband, Joe, Blaine Bloomgren, Jacob, Gage and Carter, Wendy Emler and her husband, Clay, Heidi Fulton and her husband, Dan, Stacy Smith and her husband, Anthony, Krystal Johnson and her husband, Shawn, Andrew and Sarah Koch; great-grandchildren, Delaney and Carson, Emily, Natalie, Andrew, Cole and Cori, Christopher, Taylor, Caleb and Malachi; Sister, Leona LaPointe of Brainerd, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Vinnie Wilken of Fairmont, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Jerry Erickson of Fairmont, Minnesota, Emma Nordhausen of Arlington, Minnesota, LaVonne Ringler and her husband, Duane of Winona, Minnesota and Mary Ann Koch and her husband, Ethan, of Fairmont, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Joan Nordhausen; sons, Gordon Wilson and Gary Nordhausen; brothers and sisters and other relatives.
