Adolphus made his living as a mason. In 1832 he became one of the first settlers to the area that is now the city of Livonia. Other settlers came during the years of 1833 and 1834. Late in 1934 the settlers petitioned for a division from Nankin township. On march 17 1835 the law creating the township was passed. The first township meeting was held April 6th 1835 at the "Tamarack School House" on John Joslin's farm. Adolphus was chosen as the moderator for the first township meeting. The name Livonia was taken from one of the western providences of Russia and was chosen to insure it would not be duplicated elsewhere. The first elections were held in 1835. Adolphus was chosen as Supervisor. He held that position through 1838. He served as Justice of the Peace from 1839 through 1841, and then again in 1845 and 1849.Adolphus Was married to Emma Butterfield Brigham She was born1805 and died in 1889 in Livonia center wayne co. mi.
