1. Enlisted and mustered into state service September 11, 1862, as a private with McCreary's Independent Militia Company during the Antietam crisis, and honorably discharged with his company September 25, 1862.
2. Enlisted in Gettysburg June 16, 1863, mustered into federal service there June 23 as a sergeant with Co. B in the six-month organization of the 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry (182nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his company February 20, 1864.
3. Enlisted in Harrisburg September 3, 1864, mustered into federal service on a date as yet unknown as a private with the 184th Pennsylvania Infantry, and promoted to 1st sergeant of Co. K, then 2nd lieutenant of Co. K to date March 1, 1865. He honorably discharged with his company June 2, 1865.
He married Elizabeth Jane Black [sic] and fathered Margaret Elizabeth & Minnie S. "Mame" ((b. 02/16/76 - Margaret married Philip Miller) and Mary Susan (b. @1880). In 1890, he was living in Butler Township, Adams County, but died in Gettysburg from a "supposed attack of angina pectoris which he had suffered for years."
