1933-2015 Francis P. Bascelli, Sr, 81 of Ridley Twp., Folsom, PA, died after a long fought battle on Monday April 6, 2015 in Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Concezio and the late Virginia (Melchiorre) Bascelli. Fran began his career in Law enforcement with the Ridley Township Police Department in 1962. He was named a Juvenile Officer in 1971 and was promoted to Juvenile Detective Sergeant in May of 1983. In May of 1990 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant where he remained until his retirement in July of 1991. During his time with the Ridley Township Police Department, he received numerous commendations from residents, as well as, county officials for his dedicated service to the community. Shortly after joining the Ridley Township Police Department he became a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Delaware County Lodge #27. He eventually became Secretary of the lodge, a position he held for over 40 years. While maintaining his lodge secretarial duties he became aware of the needs and desires of police officers and their families locally, and throughout the state of Pennsylvania. The love for his fellow officers in blue led him to become President of the Town Townships and Boroughs Police Association. From there he became active with the Pennsylvania State Lodge of the Fraternal Order Of Police and in 1978 he was elected Vice President of the Pennsylvania State Lodge and served as Legislative Chairman. In 1982 he had the honor and privilege of being elected to President of the Pennsylvania State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police, a position he held for 16 years. During his tenure his main goal was to improve the quality of life for his brothers and sisters in blue and their families. His tenacity and willingness to accomplish these goals allowed him to achieve many accolades and awards. Two of his most cherished awards were The Christopher Columbus Memorial Association “Man of the Year Award,” and his induction into The International Police Officers Association Hall of Fame. Predeceased by his wife Dolores (nee Barlow) Bascelli, and daughter Dolores Ann Bascelli, and his siblings Leon Bascelli, John Bascelli, Marie Renaldi and Virgina Goodrum. Survived by his wife: Kathleen (Price) Bascelli, His Children: Francis (Mary Ruth) Bascelli,Jr, Mark (Dawn) Bascelli, Matthew (Andrea) Colflesh, Loretta Bascelli, Gloria Bascelli, Melissa Colflesh, 7 grandchildren, Joseph, Adam, Mark Jr., Nicholas, Amanda, Francis III and Dylan, as well as, many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady Of Peace Church, 200 Milmont Ave., Milmont Park.
