Edgar Albert Armstrong, a retired electrician, died Thursday at Orchards Villa Nursing Center at Lewiston of a stroke. He was 88.

The son of John and Eliza Nott Armstrong, he was born Sept. 24, 1902, at MacLennan, Ontario, Canada, where he was raised and attended school.

After completing his schooling, he moved to Duluth, Minn., where he worked in the steel mills.

He and Beatrice M. Yarno were married June 30, 1926, at Duluth. They moved to Potlatch, Idaho, in 1927, where he worked for Potlatch Forests, Inc. (now known as Potlatch Corp.).

In 1933, he was transferred to the Lewiston plant, where he worked as a monorail driver until 1949. He then worked as an electrician at Potlatch until his retirement in 1969.

Armstrong became a U.S. citizen in 1941.

He and his wife moved from their Clarkston home to Lewiston in 1967.

He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and fishing. He was a charter member of the Potlatch No. 1 Federal Credit Union and of the Valley Christian Center at Lewiston, serving as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent.

He helped build the first living Christmas tree and a communion table for the church. He also sang in the Christmas tree choir and was church greeter.

Survivors include his wife of Lewiston; four daughters, Phyllis Hamann of Seattle, Lois McGinnis of Whidby Island, Wash., Donna Cook of Bothell, Wash., and Berna Faris of Dallas, Ore.; a son, Arvid Armstrong of Lewiston; a twin sister, Lillian MacDonald of Sault St. Marie, Ontario, Canada; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m. today at Malcom's Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel at Lewiston. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Valley Christian Center with the Rev. Dennis Noble of the church officiating.

Burial will follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens at Lewiston.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the Valley Christian Center Memorial Fund.
