Surviving is his wife, Martha; four sons, Mark Chambers of Malone, John Chambers of Ogdensburg, William Chambers of Canton and Rodney Chambers & his wife Tracy of LaFargeville; a daughter, Michelle McQueer & her husband Daniel of Hammond; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred Chambers of Russell MA; four sisters, Ida Cummings of Massena, Agnes Perry of Ogdensburg, Eleanor James and Rosemary Simmons both of Heuvelton; along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Chambers; four brothers, Burton, Clifford, Richard & Howard Chambers; and three sisters, Norma Brooks, Sharon Spicer & Gloria Mills.
Leon was born on December 7, 1934 in Heuvelton, a son of the late James & Annas (Redmond) Chambers. He attended Heuvelton Schools for his education, and later entered the United States Airforce during the Korean War. He later married Martha D. Ljongquist on September 10, 1961 at the Ogdensburg Nazarene Church.
He worked at Allios Cheese Plant in Heuvelton for a period, and later became a farm hand for many years in Lisbon, Waddington and Madrid until he retired in 1999. Leon enjoyed bowling, going for walks, jigsaw puzzles, making hats, quilting and collecting eagles. He was an avid NY Yankee fan and a past member of the Ogdensburg AmVets.
