He married Naina DeEsta Robinson Aug. 20, 1936 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died Aug. 29, 1988.
He grew up in Pocatello, Idaho and Cache Valley, attending Cache and Box Elder High Schools. He was active in drama, debate, choir and opera. He loved chess, swimming and was excellent at training horses and working with all animals. He had quick wit and a sense of humor.
He farmed in Bancroft, Idaho, was a photographer for the Ogden Standard Examiner and worked as a salesman.
He was an airplane pilot and former member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was active in Civic affairs. was a member of The Junior Chamber of Commerce and was a Lions Club president.
Surviving are three children, Duane (Julie) Phippen and Duane (Arlene Wilson, both of Brigham City, David L. and Pat Whitney of Caldwell; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one niece that was raised like a sister, Bonnie Gardner.
Funeral services were Saturday at the Olsen-Myers Mortuary in Brigham City.
