George McDougall was a Methodist clergyman and missionary, and a pioneer in what is now Alberta founding missions and schools to aid the First Nations people. He was well respected by both government and the indigenous people as a trustworthy adviser and was present at major treaty signings in the area.

He died while hunting, location: Prairies, Nose Creek District, Alberta, Canada. (About 40 miles East of his mission near Morley).

The deceased was for 16 years chairman of
the Wesleyan missions in the North West.
He lost his way on the prairie about 40 miles
east of this place on January 24th 1876. His
body was found on the 5th of the following
month and interred here by his sorrowing
family who have erected this tribute to his memory
