Silver Star Citation;
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Specialist Fourth Class Scott A. Christofferson, United States Army, for gallantry in action against a hostile force on 8 October 1967, in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Fourth Class Christofferson distinguished himself by his fearless courage and intense devotion to duty. On that date, his platoon was attacked by two North Vietnamese Army Companies using automatic weapons, mortars and recoilless rifles. When ordered to withdraw, Specialist Christofferson elected to remain in his vulnerable position to cover the withdrawal of his comrades. Despite heavy mortar and automatic weapons fire, Specialist Christofferson was unrelenting in his resistance of the enemy until fatally wounded. Due directly to his gallant efforts, many of his comrades were able to reach safety. Specialist Fourth Class Christofferson's undaunted determination and unselfish concern for the lives of his fellow soldiers were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Americal Division, and the United States Army.
