Bernard W. Riney, 88, of Keokuk, died Saturday, April 4, 2015 at his home.

He was born on August 16, 1926 in St. Patrick, MO the son of Walter C. and Mary Ellen Marcus Riney. On December 31, 1954 Bernard was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Rude in Keokuk, IA. She preceded him in death on September 27, 1992.

Bernard was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during WW II and the Korean War.

He was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk, the American Legion and the Local # 148 of the Operating Engineers Union.

Bernard was employed at Foote Mineral in Keokuk for 40 years, before his retirement in 1986.

Bernard loved to go coon hunting with his coon dog Curley. He was an avid Cardinal Fan, and was a collector of little antique model cars.

He is survived by one son: Bernie W. Riney of Keokuk, one daughter: Becky W. Riney and her husband Chris Campbell of Hamilton, IL, two grandchildren, Adam Riney and Miranda Cowles and four great-grandchildren, Mary Beth Kepler, Zachary Gargus, Hunter Riney and Nakiya Cowles.

Bernard was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Margaret Winters, four brothers, Herman, Charles and Carl Riney and one in infancy.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday,, April 9, 2015 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Deacon Bill Cosgrove officiating. Burial with military rites was held at the Keokuk National Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday with family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
