J.D. "Sonny" Brixey,72, of Gainesville, MO the son of Oliver and Gertie Brixey was born October 11, 1942 in Zanoni, MO and passed from this life March 25, 2015 at Gainesville, MO.
A gentle soul and a man of few words, he worked at a feed mill in Springfield, MO. Unable to read or write, Sonny memorized the colors of all the labels on the feed sacks and was able to do his job with the best of them. In 1974, he moved back to Zanoni and worked for his Aunt Goldie and Uncle Herschel Newton on the family farm. Anywhere Herschel went, Sonny could be found. Whether feeding cattle or hogs, mending fences, riding shotgun in the truck or whiling away a Sunday afternoon on the bench in front of the old store, they were together. After his health started to decline, Sonny moved to the Gainesville Health Care Center. He loved animals and children and especially loved sweets. He couldn't be trusted to eat just one! He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Dorothy Brixey
and his sister, Judy Brixey. He is survived by his nephew, James Denton of West Plains, MO and numerous cousins.
A private memorial service is planned for a later date. Arrangements are by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
