She was the son of Sydney and Mary Lee Burton, and the widower of Goldie Mae Bryant Burton and later Bobbie McLean Ellis Burton. He was a dedicated Christian and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Adair Gideon Camp. He had a long string of business successes, as the owner at various times, of Burtons Auto Parts, Burton Brothers Station, Jeffries Hardware and Russell County Auto Parts and other enterprises. He was a World War II veteran serving his country in the U.S Army.

Preceded in death by his wife; Goldie Mae Bryant Burton on March 1, 2005 He later married Bobbie McLean Ellis Burton who also preceded him in death on September 23, 2009.
He was preceded in death by one daughter Thelma Jean Akin on July 19, 1991 and by one grandson Kenny Akin, on March 11, 2014, and by one great grandson Christopher Michael Akin, on November 26, 2000 and by eleven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by the following:
