Bio:
Alfred Eugene Petersen was born 29 March 1898 in Granger, Utah to Danish immigrant Nelsen Petersen and his British wife, Sarah Grant Petersen. Alfred was the 9th of the Petersens' 13 children.

In 1922, he married Elizabeth "Bessie" Coats, also of Granger. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple by Elder George F. Richards and settled in Granger on a farm. They had three boys: Robert Coats Petersen (1923), Nelsen Petersen (1924) and Dean Coats Petersen (1926). Nelsen died in 1924, the same day he was born.

In July 1926, at the age of 28, Alfred suddenly died of a heart ailment. When he died, his son Robert was 3 years old and his son Dean was only 5 months old. Two days later, Alfred's brother-in-law Dick Coats died, and a double funeral was held for them. Alfred was buried in Taylorsville Memorial Park Cemetery in a plot he himself bought only a few years prior. He was buried near his son, Nelsen. In 1939, his son Dean (13 years old) died of heart disease and was buried next to Nelsen and Alfred.

In 1988, his wife Bessie passed away and was buried next to him. In her scrapbook were a few photos of Alfred, a copy of their marriage certificate and her copy of Alfred's funeral program, possessions she had kept for over 60 years.

Even though only one of Alfred's three children survived to adulthood, he had six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and as of 2014, 13 great-great-grandchildren.
