Irene M. (Marchand) Alartosky, 93, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 21, 2012, after a brief illness, with her loving family watching over her.

Irene was born in Haverhill on August 22, 1918, daughter of the late Henry and Rosanna (Bergeron) Marchand. She attended Haverhill schools and was a longtime member of St. James Church. She retired from Western Electric in 1981 after many years of service.

Irene was a caring and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was happiest surrounded by her family, loved to bake and was an accomplished cook. She couldn’t wait to celebrate all the holidays.

She had countless friends and loved people. No matter where she was she always seemed to run into someone she knew and would enjoy chatting. Her pleasures included trips to Foxwoods, bingo, playing cards, yard sales and going out to eat. She will be deeply missed and remembered not just by her family but by all who knew her.

In 1989, Irene was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Albert Alartosky and her youngest daughter, Cheryl Makepeace. Irene was predeceased by brothers, Raymond and Emil, sisters, Yvonne and Beatrice and a very dear sister-in-law, Catherine Alartosky.

Her survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Patricia Palazzo and husband Louis, Judith Greene and husband Richard, all of Salem, NH, Grandson Louis Palazzo, Jr. of Salem, NH and Grandaughter Christine Makepeace of Hampton Falls, NH, brother Richard Marchand and his wife Marion of Skaneateles, NY, many nieces and nephews and their families and dear friend Father James Broderick who presided over her funeral service.

Irene’s family hopes everyone who knew and loved her will treasure the memory of her beautiful smiling face, joyful laugh and all the happy times.

Her funeral services were privately held. Burial was in St. James Cemetery, Primrose St., Haverhill, MA.
