A native of Iola, Kansas, Charles Bertrum or Bertram (CB) Wallis had lived in El Dorado, Arkansas for 36 years at the time of his death. After a previous marriage of short duration, he married his second wife, Gertrude Susan Goldsmith March 6, 1910 in Sapulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma. They are both listed on the marriage license as being from Kiefer, Oklahoma. She pre-deceased him by nearly 20 years. Following her death again had a marriage of short duration and then married a widow, Stella Dean Morgan, who had taken care of Gertrude in their home. They were married until his death.

CB worked for Kathleen Oil Company and Magnoiia Oil Companies in Kiefer and Cushing, Oklahoma and Homer, Louisiana before settling in El Dorado. He retired from Magnolia Petroleum Company as a construction engineer.

CB was a veteran of the Spanish American war. He was a private in the infantry, Co. E, 35 Regiment, US Volunteers, serving in Manila, Philippines. Family story is that he was too young, but lied about his age so he could volunteer. In 1956 he was elected Commander of the Spanish American War Veterans in Arkansas.

His funeral was at the First Christian Church of El Dorado where he was a member. He is buried next to his wife, mother of his children, Gertrude Susan Goldsmith.
