Dot was a daughter of Harry Hinkle Overton & Ollie Belle Austin. She married Hal Curtis Potter, Jr.


Dorothy Overton Potter, 88, of Aurora passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Grantsbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was a member of Campbells Creek United Methodist Church where she was the pianist for over 20 years. She married Hal Curtis Potter Jr., who preceded her in death, and together they founded and co-owned Potter Oil Company in Aurora.

She is survived by her four sons, Curtis Potter of Aurora, Thomas “Tommy” O. Potter of Plymouth, Marvin “Randy” Potter of Ayden and Jerry Dail Potter of Alliance; daughter, Mary Ann Potter of Washington, NC; brother, Orville Wright Overton of Harkers Island; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 31st at Campbells Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Jones and the Rev. Steve Stutts officiating. Internment will follow immediately in Mixon Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Mixon Cemetery Fund, C/o Carlyle Paul, 30323 NC Hwy 33, Aurora, NC 27806.
