Robert N. Vargo, 55, of Berwick passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Berwick on Oct. 13, 1959, he was the son of Alvin R. “Pete” and Martha (Whitmire) Vargo of Berwick. He attended Berwick schools and was previously employed as a maintenance person with Pennmed Nursing Homes for many years.
Robert was a life member and volunteer firefighter at Eagle Hose Fire Company, Berwick. He was a member of VFW Post 821, Berwick. He liked spending time in the Eagles Mere area, where he spent a great deal of time growing up. He loved spending time outdoors, hiking at Ricketts Glen State Park, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed football, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren, of whom he was very proud.
In addition to his parents, he will be greatly missed by his wife of 35 years, Lori (Welsh) Vargo; daughters: Kim Wynings, Harrisburg; Kristi Sholley and husband, George, Berwick; son, Robert Vargo, Berwick; 14 grandchildren: Alyshia, Ashley, Robert, Rayonna, Dakota, Layla, Natasha, Belle, Karista, Jason, Brydon, Gabriel, Zaniel, and Alex-Robert; two great-grandchildren: Adara and Zyler. He is also survived by his brothers: Steve Vargo and wife, Cathy; Brian Vargo and Dave Vargo, all of Berwick, as well as nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015, at VFW Post 821, 1408 W. Front St., Berwick.
