Elizabeth Allen nee Hatfield was born at Butt Lane, Husbands Bosworth, Leicestershire in 1851, she was baptised there 27th April 1851. She was the 3rd child (of six children) and only daughter of David Hatfield (1822-1891) and Sarah nee Dobson (1825- 1884). She was a cook at Maidwell Hall when she met her future husband Frederick Allen. They married at Brixworth Register Office 21st October 1872. They had six children, two sons and four daughters. They first moved to Burton on Trent where their first daughter was born in 1874 and then to Syston Street, Leicester for Frederick to find work as a Carter in the town. They had moved to 77 Harewood Street by 1901 and remained there when she died aged 81 years.
