Charles Jefferson Walters was born December 1, 1872, at Palm Springs, Arkansas to James Adam Walters and Eliza Ann Howdyshell.
Eliza had a son from a prior marriage - Perry Jefferson Taylor. He was two years old when James and Eliza were married. "Charlie" had two sisters through this union, Amanda Elizabeth born December 2, 1879 and Minnie born about 1875/1878. Charlie's mother passed away giving birth to Minnie and his father, not having the means to care for her, gave his baby to a Groves/Graves family at Bunker Hill, Indiana. Also it is said that she was given to a family by the name of Troyet.
It is not known whether Amanda traveled west with the family after James remarried, but Charlie and Perry Taylor did.
Charlie's father married Margaret Jane Lynch in 1878, Eria, Neosho, Kansas. They were in Chaunte, Neosho, Kansas during 1877/1879. In 1880 at Eldorado, Butler, Kansas and in 1881 on the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, Oklahoma; 1884 they were back to Chanute Kansas and by 1892 they were in Willard, Utah; 1894, they were in Black Pine, Idaho; and in 1895 they had moved to Sublett, Cassia, Idaho.
During this time there were 12 children born to this marriage - three sons and nine daughters. However, only four girls lived to maturity.
They were farmers at Sublett and life wasn't easy for them. Charlie met Nancy Lorean Higley while they were living in Black Pine and they were married five years later on December 12, 1898, in Brigham City, Utah.
After they were married they went back to Black Pine and lived at her father's log home. Later she stayed in her father's home in Brigham City while Charlie was herding sheep. They lived in Brigham city, Ogden and Honeyville, Utah and back and forth to the ranch in Black Pine, Idaho. Later in life, Charlie gave up farming and stayed with herding sheep.
Children born to Charles and Lorean: Chloe Lorean, Erma Opal, Lowell Merlin, Thelma Naomi and Deorr Lee - all born in Brigham City, Utah.
They were sealed in the Logan Temple and both did a lot of temple work for family members.
Charlie passed away June 27. 1959 at Brigham City. Lorean joined him on January 20, 1965. They are both buried in the Brigham City cemetery.
