Larry Meyer 72, a longtime Boulder resident, passed away on Monday March 16. Larry was born to Harold and Reva Meyer in Flandreau, South Dakota. Siblings included older brother, David Janssen, sister, Gloria Durling and a twin brother, Lee Meyer.
Larry spent his childhood in York, Nebraska. Twins, Lee and Larry Meyer played varsity basketball, football, golf, and set numerous school swimming records.
Attending the University of Nebraska, he earned a business administration degree. While in college, Larry met and later married Linda Christianson.
In 1976, Larry and his family moved to Boulder, Colorado with much excitement. Many weekends were spent in the mountains, enjoying skiing with friends and family. Attending swim meets and tennis matches were a happy part of the family's summers. Larry always adored living in Colorado. After moving to Boulder, he was quickly converted from Cornhusker to CU Buffalo football fan. He loved the NU, CU rivalry, traveling to Lincoln or hosting Nebraska relatives for the annual showdown. Larry loved travelling, family trips to Mexico long before it was a tourist destination to see the Mayan ruins and deep-sea fish, sailing to Molokai, Hawaii and whale watching in Maui were particularly memorable.
A banker for over 30 years, Larry's financial career began at Iowa Des Moines National bank, and continued in Colorado at the First National Bank of Boulder. Larry was honored to serve as the President of both United Bank of Boulder and the American National Bank of Cheyenne, Wyoming. He cherished his time spent socializing, laughing, storytelling and building relationships with his coworkers, clients and friends.
After his retirement, Larry enjoyed playing golf, skiing, watching college football and using his daughter's airline travel benefits. Larry and his wife enjoyed trips to Paris, New Zealand, Hawaii, and numerous cruises.
Larry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda, daughter Andrea, son Kevin, grandson Nicholas and his beloved dog Dea.
His son Mark, parents, brother David, brother Lee, preceded him in death.
Services will be held at Greenwood & Myers Mortuary at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Boulder Valley Humane Society.
