LINDA HEDRICK MCKENZIE

Linda McKenzie, 73, Lenexa, Kan., passed away at home March 26, 2015, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Linda was born March 21, 1942, in Savannah, Ga., the daughter of Margaret (Wright) and Martin Odom. Linda grew up in Independence, Mo., and attended Raytown Schools, graduating in 1960 from Raytown High School. She attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo. Linda was employed as the Human Resource Manager for Williams Foods, retiring after 22 years.

Mrs. McKenzie enjoyed retirement immensely, spending her time traveling, participating in church activities with Church of the Resurrection, shopping, and spending time with her friends and loving family. Linda raised her three sons in Lenexa, where she made life-long friends that were by her side and acted as a source of strength for her until the end. She was a loving, caring, supportive mother who always played an active role in her sons' lives. Linda adored her grandkids, seizing every opportunity she could to be with them at sporting events, birthday parties, band concerts, and holidays, always with a gift in-hand.

Linda married Walt McKenzie on Oct. 20, 2013, after reuniting with him at a high school reunion. They enjoyed spending their time together antiquing, visiting estate sales, and traveling. They volunteered with Airedale rescues, helping to find homes for dogs in need.

Linda McKenzie is survived by husband, Walt of the home; three sons, Allan Hedrick (Cindy), Scott Hedrick (Terri), and Kent Hedrick (Tellye). Grandchildren, Megan, Andrew, Addie, Eli, Brooks, Gabe, Caitrin, Caleb, and Delaney also survive her. She is also survived by stepsons, Kent McKenzie (Jayne), and Eric McKenzie (Lisa). She also leaves a surviving brother, Martin Odom (Carol) of PA; sister, Jean Carter (Bruce) of AL; and loving nieces and nephew. Princess, her loyal Maltese, is also at the home.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Airedale Rescue, or Operation Breakthrough.

Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 30, with a celebration of life from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Lenexa. Private burial service will be held at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, later in the afternoon.
