See Hamilton County and the Civil War, Joe H. Burgess, p. 152:

Bradfield, Francis A., Pvt. Residence Boxleytown [Hamilton Co, IN], Mustered in Dec 19, 1861, Died Apr 4, 1862, Co H, 57th Indiana Vol Infantry, buried Nashville Natl Cemetery.

As of 1 May 2016, six data files on RootsWeb/WorldConnect list the 4 Apr 1862 date of death for Francis, most implying that the military service record is the source.

Many thanks to fellow Find A Grave contributor Melissa Mihal for suggesting (22 Apr 2016) the addition of the following to the memorial:

Per the "U.S., Registers of Deaths of Volunteers, 1861-1865," Francis A. Bradfield's cause of death was "Contin Fever" in General Hospital No. 7, Nashville, TN, with remarks of "JNO R. Pirtle S. Up." In answer to a question about the meaning of "JNO R. Pirtle S. Up," she explained (26 Apr 2016), "The phrase in question is in reference to where he died. Just North Of = JNO, R. Pirtle = under whose *direct* command. S. Up = South Upstream. I inquired as to what this meant and was told by a historian."

Melissa sent a separate SAC suggesting that the date of death on the memorial be changed from 4 Dec to 3 Dec, and she replied to an inquiry as to the source (26 Apr 2016): "Date of death came from the "US Registers of Death of Volunteers 1861-1865."

That source is available on Ancestry.com and does indeed list a 3 Dec date of death.

In view of the discrepancy between the 3 Dec and 4 Dec dates of death, this memorial will err on the side of caution by using simply Dec 1862 as a date of death. Additional information about the correct date of death would be welcome.
