The family Mr. Buckner attended Maranatha Baptist Church and formerly worked for Air Preheater. He enjoyed fishing and telling fish tales. He loved life and never met a stranger. He had a knack for making people laugh. He also loved making peach seed baskets and giving them away. Mr. Buckner will truly be missed.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Buckner (Memorial # 57371153 and Albert Newberry Buckner (Memorial # 15754982). His brothers are buried at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Buncombe County, NC.
Surviving Mr. Buckner are his wife of 61 years, Josephine "Josie" Gentry Buckner of the home; two sons, Paul Edward Buckner and Randall Eugene Buckner, both of Marion; one daughter, Pamela Kay Burnett and husband, Jerry of Piney Flatts, Tenn.; three brothers, Ferman Buckner and wife, Joy of Tacoma, Wash., James "J.D." Buckner and wife, Dixie of Marion and Clifton Buckner of Marion; three sisters, Ruth Gentry of Marion, Ellen Buckner of Glenwood and Faye Mann and husband, Robert of Marion; two grandsons, Christopher Buckner and wife, Marijana of Chantilly, Va. and Jonathan Buckner of Washington; one great-grandson, Sylus Michael Buckner; two special friends, Shirley Ward of Glenwood and Bobby Robinson of Marion; and Mr. Buckner's little buddy, Jed, an English Bulldog.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at Maranatha Baptist Church, with pastors Bill Dillon and Bruce Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Drucilla Independent Fundemental Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Lung Association of NC, Western Region, P.O.
