Nancy Mendenhall, wife of John Males of Earlham, was born November 22, 1823, and died December 23, 1901. At the time of her death she was 78 years, 1 month and one day old. When quite a small child she removed from Greene county, Ohio, with her father’s family to Marion county, Indiana; here she was married and later on came to Iowa. To this union was born six children, 5 sons and a daughter. The daughter and one son have preceded their mother home.

Always an affectionate wife and mother, she was not lacking in that best of all blessings—a strong hope of a future happy state, where the earthly cares are over. About 35 years ago she was converted and united with the United Brethren church. The later years of her life. her membership was held with the Friends church at Earlham, where on Christmas day she was laid to rest. Rev. Stribling, an old friend of the family, conducted the services. Thus death has been with us and taken another one from our midst. May she rest in peace.
