Joseph E. Carey, 85, Kokomo, passed away on Tuesday March 24, 2015, in the comfort of his home. He was born on March 27, 1929, in Walton, IN, the son of Elias & Virginia (Cross) Carey. On May 19, 1956 he married Mary Helen “Babe” Neiheisel and she survives.

Joe was a 1947 graduate of Walton High School. He had been employed with American Standard for 25 years. Joe then worked for Chrysler Transmission Plant where he finally retired in 1994 after 22 years of service. Joe had been a member the Full Gospel Business Men’s Group and the Chrysler Chaplaincy Team. He was a member of the Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene, an officer and member of KUM-JOIN-US Sunday school class, the Ekklesia Men’s Thursday morning Breakfast Club and Bible Study Group, along with the YMCA (Huddle), and the Great Banquet Alumni Association. He had also been a Hospice Volunteer for 16 years.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Babe Carey, Kokomo; children, Jedd (Sherry) Carey, Logansport, Greg (Michelle) Carey, Logansport, Stacey (Randy) Dudeck, South Bend, and Susan Roudebush, Anderson; grandchildren, Sarah (Matt) Hodgin, Zach Carey, Kristen Carey, and Jack Roudebush; great grandchildren, Layla, Cole, and Dane Hodgin; sister, Ruth (Carey) Bloss, Indianapolis; sisters-in-law, Martha Gentry, and Mary Ann Neiheisel, along with countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law, Byron Bloss, Jack Neiheisel, and Jack Gentry.

Joe was a loving husband, father, and friend. His priorities of faith and family were obvious. He worked diligently to meet the needs of others. His concerns were genuine and his dedication inspiring. Joe had a unique appreciation for the beauty of nature and the blessings of life. He was rich in love and he will be forever missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 30, 2015, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2734 South Washington Street, Kokomo, with Pastors Jon Tice and Stan Zurcher officiating. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery.
