Lorne was the oldest of eight children. He married Mary Eastland in Toronto on 17 September 1954; they settled in Collingwood and had one son, Jammie (1959 - 1992). Mary worked in the kitchen at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital; Lorne had his hand crushed in an industrial accident. Lorne developed Alzheimer's and passed away at Owen Sound on 12 August 2001 with his wife by his side.
