Walter E. Darst

Walter E. Darst, 69, Grain Valley, formerly of Bates City, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Darst was born Jan. 2, 1931, in Maysville, Mo. He married Henrietta Marie Barker Smith on Aug. 18, 1979, in Kansas City.

He was a toolsetter for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, retiring in 1981. He had also worked for the Independence Stove Co. in Independence from 1954 to 1964.

He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from Jan. 8, 1951, through Nov. 23, 1954.

He belong to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Independence.

His survivors include his wife, Henrietta Marie Darst of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald and Lisa Darst, Oak Grove, and son, John Darst, California; a stepson, Gene Smith and wife, Betty, Las Vegas, Nev.; a stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Pulliam and husband, Dennis, Kansas City; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in Barker Cemetery, north of Odessa, with the Odessa Veterans of Foreign Wars providing military honors.

The family suggests contributions to the Barker Cemetery Association, Odessa.
